Product Description

St Bridgid's Cross

Made in Ireland from rushes growing along the banks of the River Shannon. This is the traditional way of making a St Bridgid's cross and the type most commonly found in Irish homes and outhouses where animals are housed. They are still as popular in Ireland today as they ever were.

Patricia is the craftswoman who makes these crosses. Each Summer she dons her waders and collects rushes from the River Shannon. She then fashions these crosses in the traditional way.

St Bridget, (Mary of the Gael) was born in the mid fifth century and is buried at Down Patrick beside St Patrick and St. Columcille.

This emblem is believed to protect the home and its inhabitants from fire, evil and want.
